Trash Season - August Blues at the Movies

It's a known known that the end of summer is the dumping period for surefire shockers at the cinema. Even my enthralled passion for the grin-inducing euphoria of dance flicks couldn't stop Step Up 3D from a script that an earthworm would be shamed by.

There are evidently pretty sound business reasons for this practice, but I think some arthouse fare is missing a trick here. The argument seems to be that our collective brains are so exhausted by August, all we want is to be blanketed by dumb crap.

August is like the mid-afternoon period that leads us all to crashing, snoozing in the office toilets and drenching ourselves in coffee. As anyone knows, fueling up on a sugar high only leads to a worst crash soon after.

So - if we pump ourselves with a stack of tosh in the summer, we'll be suffering when Fall rolls around with so-called Oscar fare. Chucking in some genuine health food, the odd decent drama and well-crafted thriller, will keep us all primed for what will roll our way later in the year.
