Does Everyone In the UK Buy, Sell, Deal or Grow Drugs?

Evidently the answer is No. But that might not be the message gained if you were a intermittent viewer of recent British films.
One can certainly admire some of the works and certainly see a broad range of quality - from the well-paced and tightly constructed Shifty to the stream of dross starring everyone's favourite cockney punching bag Danny Dyer.
But the avalanche of narcotics in these films is amazing. It's just lazy writing OR lazy executives thinking that such content is feverishly sought by audiences. It's not even intertwined with the social realism, kitchen-sink material that England is famed for. Drugs are ubiquitous because they're easy to throw into a story to add danger, spice and depravity as needed.
Surely exploring three dimensional characters from all over the social spectrum doesn't have to equate to needles in every household?
